DEAKIN UNIVERSITY REFLECTION GARDEN

Client: Deakin University

Year: 2018

Budget: $1.2 million

SBLA Studio were engaged to design and document a relaxation garden for Deakin University’s Burwood Campus.

The garden is based on the Japanese Zen Garden

- it takes inspiration from the Zen Garden play on perspective and seasonal change of planting to ease the mind. SBLA have taken a series of core values particularly used in Kyoto gardens and applied them to an Australian setting. A meditative walk weaves it's way through the centre of garden - surrounded by pebble garden beds full of weird and wonderful plant species.

PLACE FOR PAUSE

Shelters clad in shingles and tea tree offer place for pause.

A water feature that seamlessly sits adjacent to the garden offers an area for staff and students to reflect.
